Unix Timestamp to Date Converter

Paste a Unix timestamp and read it as a human-friendly date — in UTC, your local timezone, or any of hundreds of IANA timezones. The precision (seconds, milliseconds, or microseconds) is detected automatically.

How to convert a Unix timestamp to a date

Paste the value into the converter above and the date appears instantly: UTC, your local timezone, ISO 8601, RFC 2822, and a relative reading like "3 days ago". To pin the result to a specific timezone, open the timezone picker and search for any IANA zone — Asia/Kolkata, Europe/Berlin, America/New_York, and so on.

You can also deep-link a value for later: open /?ts=1722750000 and the converter pre-fills it. Bookmark that URL and the number stays one click away.

Seconds, milliseconds, or microseconds?

A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since January 1, 1970, UTC — but many systems count in smaller units, and mixing them up is the classic timestamp bug. This converter detects the unit from the number of digits (10 = seconds, 13 = milliseconds, 16 = microseconds), or you can lock the unit manually with the buttons next to the input.

  • 10 digits — seconds: 1722750000 → Aug 4, 2024 05:40:00 UTC. Used by PHP time(), Python time.time(), and most databases.
  • 13 digits — milliseconds: 1722750000123 → the same instant, with 123 ms. Used by JavaScript Date.now() and Java System.currentTimeMillis().
  • 16 digits — microseconds: 1722750000123456. Used by Go time.Now().UnixMicro() and high-precision telemetry.

Timestamps, decoded

  • 0 → January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC — the Unix epoch itself.
  • 1614556800 → March 1, 2021 00:00:00 UTC.
  • 1700000000 → November 14, 2023 22:13:20 UTC.
  • 1767225600000 → January 1, 2026 00:00:00 UTC (milliseconds).

Where you will find Unix timestamps

Unix time is how computers record moments, so you will meet it everywhere you debug:

  • File listings and terminal output — stat, ls --full-time, dmesg.
  • Application and server logs, often with 10-digit or 13-digit values.
  • Database rows — MySQL UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), Postgres EXTRACT(EPOCH ...).
  • API payloads, JWT claims (iat, exp), and analytics events.

When a log shows a number like 1718841600, paste it here and it becomes June 20, 2024 00:00:00 UTC in a single keystroke.

Negative timestamps and fractional seconds

Timestamps before 1970 are negative — -86400 is December 31, 1969. Fractions are handled too: 1722750000.5 is half a second past the whole second, and the converter keeps the fractional part in its milliseconds and microseconds columns.

Convert a whole list at once

Need to decode a spreadsheet of timestamps? Use the batch converter on the home page — paste one value per line (or comma-separated) and every row converts in a single pass, with TSV/CSV export. Or go the other direction with the date to epoch converter.
